Here's a great drill for controlling the speed and distance of a golf
ball with incredible accuracy and consistency. The secret is to lengthen
your through stroke and make every putt a simple race to the target
between the putter and the ball. With this technique there are only
three possible outcomes - either the putter wins the race, the ball
wins or it's a dead heat. With a little practice it will look and
feel like your ball is on a string.
Challenge yourself the next time you're practicing. See if you can
dead heat the ball and the putter to your target. It's harder than
you think but if you can do it, even as a practice drill, you'll find
it immediately turns a hit into a stroke, and makes visualizing and
achieving good distance control much easier as a result.
If you're finding it hard to visualise, watch the video below - a
picture does, afterall, say a thousand words.
